The Ambroise Paré Medal is the most prestigious surgical award in France. Awarded by the National Academy of Surgery, it honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to surgery through their scientific, academic, clinical, or institutional work. It is named after Ambroise Paré, the father of modern surgery, who revolutionized the practice by introducing the scalpel, vessel ligation, bandages, prostheses, and above all by his determination to raise the status of the surgical profession: “I treat the poor like kings.” He was surgeon to four kings of France.
